Pet Friendly Indoor Plants

While faux plants have been all the rage in home décor, nothing beats the satisfaction that comes from growing your own green babies. As a plant mom and a cat mom, keeping plants that are safe for my animals to munch on every now and then is incredibly important to me. In a perfect world, out pets would leave our plants alone to flourish in peace – but anyone who has ever owned a cat or dog knows that this is far from likely. Here are a few fur baby friendly plants that will keep your mind at ease every time your pet gets a little mischievous.

Spider Plant

Spider Plant

Not only is this plant pet friendly, but it looks lovely in a hanging planter. This is my personal favorite plant because my cats cannot reach it, so it is able to grow without disturbance, and if a leave falls off, I do not need to fret about someone using it as a chew toy. Along with this, they are very easy to grow and an air plant, and who doesn’t appreciate clean air?

Zebra Cactus

Who does not love succulents? They are easy to keep alive and taste bitter to your pets. After one nibble, my cats haven’t touched them again.

Basil

Basil

At last, an herb that you can grow indoors. Most herbs are incredibly toxic to pets; therefore, while my herb garden is outside, my basil has a cozy spot on my window seal. It is incredibly convenient for my addiction to eating Italian food.

Birds Nest Fern

This one is a little tricky. Your pets will like playing in the fern’s crinkly leaves and love chewing on them. But this plant is so beautiful, I could not help but put it on the list. If you are looking for a challenge, this is it.

Parlor Palm

If you are looking for a larger addition to your plant family, this is it. The parlor palm makes a breath-taking addition to any home. I get asked about mine all the time, so yes, a plant can be a conversation starter.
