An Artful Way to Entertain Children at Home

As we have had the pleasure of being a full household over the past several weeks, we have also found a wonderful way to keep our middle school daughter engaged with art. She has been focused on acrylic pouring techniques for creating new works of art. As she has gained experience, we have increased the challenge. The picture above shows her largest challenge to date – a 30 x 40 canvas.

Acrylic pouring is an abstract art technique where artists pour fluid acrylic paints on a surface creating art. Acrylic pouring is a “fluid art” along with alcohol ink, and resin art. With acrylic pours, you can create backdrops for dreamscape scenery, coasters and other home decor, and magnificent faux marble counter tops (just to name a few). With so many acrylic pouring techniques available, it can be difficult to know where to begin. My advice is that there is no wrong way to start, but a little up-front research will go a long way. We have found that YouTube is a great resource; however, you can find ideas with any simple web search.

The pictures above are but a few examples of the work our daughter has put in over the past several weeks. Although it has been a great experience for all of us to watch, I do have to warn you of one important fact. It is messy! We do our painting in the garage to avoid serious accidents. I hope you have all found ways to engage your families in these trying times. Stay safe everyone!
