It is no secret that living in Florida, especially so close to the beach, can be expensive. With many of my clients moving to Florida for the first time from up north, they often are not expecting so drastic of a downsize. That being said, it is an adjustment period for many to get used to living in a smaller home, but it can be overcome! Here are some little tricks to make your home feel a whole lot bigger.
Mirrors
Mirrors can make a huge difference in a home, making it feel like you have more space than you actually do. A common theme in smaller homes is to have an entire wall in the entry be dedicated to a large mirror or wall of mirrors. You will benefit the most from a mirror reflecting an open space. This will make your home feel, to put it simply, grander.
Use Light Colors
Light paint colors trick the mind into thinking something is more open, and therefore, more specious. Furthermore, doing things like painting the walls in lighter shades or choosing lighter colored furniture will make your home appear to be larger.
Declutter
This one may seem obvious, but nevertheless I feel it need be said. Minimalism is in, and it will make your space feel SO much bigger! If an item is barely used and has no sentimental value, get rid of it. Or at the very least, box it up and put it in the garage!
Hidden Storage
One of the easiest ways to make use of a small space is to make everything you can into storage room. This is most achievable with smart furniture. Smart furniture are pieces that double as storage, for example, an ottoman that has a removable lid to show a lovely compartment for extra blankets and pillows.
I promise, anyone can adjust to a downsize. It is something that my family, which includes my two daughters who each have way too many things, have done with success. Trust me, if we can do it, you can too. Thank you for reading and have a lovely rest of your week!
