After doing some digging on this topic, I was surprised to find that not all realtors have the same opinion on whether or not you should invest in adding some landscaping to your home. I thought this was a no brainer, upgrading landscape increases the value of your home. However, this is not always the case and there is actually a logical reason why.
When most people go to add landscaping, especially when it is right before trying to sell their home, they do not really put too much effort into it. This makes sense on a surface level. You will not be living there anymore, it can be expensive, and adding a few plants should be good enough, right? Haphazardly performed or ill executed landscaping can actually decrease the value of your home. It is seen a s project that is going to have to be fixed by the new homeowner.
On the other hand, sophisticated, landscaping can increase the value of your home by up to 12%. That is a lot of money. Landscaping is so much more than just adding plants. Fencing, upgrading the patio, adding an outdoor fireplace, and so much more can add a ton of appeal to your home. It does not have to be a wildly expensive endeavor either. Simple tasks, such as weeding, pruning, and overall keeping a tidy outdoor space is equally important to curb appeal.
Along with this, buyers tend to be attracted to bright colors, so adding some flowers is a wonderful idea as well. I have said it in other blogs and will continue to say it. You want your home to feel like it could be someone’s paradise. Most people do not want a fixer upper, so you do not want to add to the list of potential improvements they would have to make. Furthermore, landscaping is important, but only if it is done right.
