Florida is absolutely littered with golf courses. It was one of the first things my family noticed when moving here from up north. It seemed like our options were living by the water or living on a golf course – and that was it. Of course, there is much more variety, but, many neighborhoods are designed around courses. I have done both since my time in Florida, living by the water and living on a golf course, and while we ultimately prefer the course, that is not to say it doesn’t have its downfalls. Here are some pros and cons to living on a golf course based on my personal experience.
Lovely Views
The biggest perk of living on a golf course is the picturesque view. Your backyard is essentially perfectly manicured for you, and rather than backing up to more houses, you have ponds or open fields. I absolutely love early mornings on the lanai, looking out into the course while I drink my herbal tea.
Privacy
It is strange to have a sometimes-never-ending stream of golfers only yards away from your home. That being said, they keep their distance, and luckily golf is not too loud of a sport. However, you do have to be careful of rogue golf-balls depending on your placement in the course. Be sure you have insurance that covers golf-ball-created accidents if you are living on a course.
Easy Access to a Course
If you or anyone in your family is a golfer, then living on a golf course is a dream. You can wake up and literally walk to the start of the course if you’d like. Many neighborhoods designed around golf courses have country club fees, ones that can include unlimited access to the course. This is both a pro and a con, being when you purchase your home, you must factor in membership costs.
