Golf Course Living

Florida is absolutely teeming with golf courses. It was one of the first things my family noticed when we moved here from up north. It seemed like our options were either living by the water or living on a golf course – and that was it. While there is much more variety, many neighborhoods are indeed designed around courses. I have experienced both options since moving to Florida, living by the water and on a golf course. Although we ultimately prefer the latter, it does have its downsides. Here are some pros and cons of living on a golf course based on my personal experience.

Lovely Views

The biggest perk of living on a golf course is the picturesque view. Your backyard is essentially perfectly manicured for you, and instead of backing up to more houses, you have ponds or open fields. I absolutely love early mornings on the lanai, looking out onto the course while I drink my herbal tea.

Privacy

It can be strange to have a sometimes never-ending stream of golfers only yards away from your home. That being said, they keep their distance, and fortunately, golf is not a particularly loud sport. However, you do need to be careful of rogue golf balls depending on your location on the course. Make sure you have insurance that covers golf ball-related accidents if you decide to live on a course.

Easy Access to the Course

If you or anyone in your family is a golfer, living on a golf course is a dream come true. You can wake up and literally walk to the start of the course. Many neighborhoods designed around golf courses have country club fees that can include unlimited access to the course. This is both a pro and a con, as when you purchase your home, you must factor in membership costs.
